Here's a link to an article about our new building. Article in the Belleville News-Democrat 12/03/14.
The new Lebanon Elementary School Building started construction on November 18th, 2013. The 40,000 square foot, 24 classroom plus gymnasium facility is scheduled to be completed around December 2014. The new elementary building will replace our current 80 year old building. The new facility will be more efficient and economical. It is also being designed to add additional classrooms in the future without displacing students. The actual construction cost is 5.5 million dollars or $138 per square foot. The actual construction cost was 1 million dollars less then projections. With contractors hungry for work, interest rates low and expensive upgrades looming on the old 80 year old school; it was time for a new building. In fact, after looking at cost to keep the 80 year old building going over the next 20 year, it was estimated that we would have to spend around 6.5 million dollars on the old building to keep it operating. It will cost our community less to build new then to maintain the old building. The first phase will be the pad (foundation) development. It will take several weeks to set up and then will need to settle over the next 2 months before the walls can start being built. Then construction will continue throughout the school year. Our priority is staff and students safety during the project. The actual construction will be located on the Southwest corner of our property. We will be updating the school web site throughout construction for updates. We hope everyone will join us December 2014 for the ribbon cutting of the newest elementary school in the nation.
Groundbreaking for the new grade school is SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1st at 1:00 pm in the field just west of the soccer field. Please come celebrate the ceremonial first shoveling.
